The last couple of times I switched over to 4 wheel drive it wouldn't come out of 4 wheel drive. Everytime I hit the button to switch it back to 2 x 2 there is a clicking noise ( it makes two clicks ) from under the dash.....and it still stays in 4 x 4 mode. Anyone have any suggestions....

What year is your Tahoe?

 

My guess would be either the switch or the encoder motor

 

it's a 99.....what's the mechanism under the dash that seems to be the main relay or something....called ?

anybody have any good leads on where to get a great deal on an ac compressor...?

 

The clicking is from the TCCM (transfer case control module) attached to the steering column.

BTW I just removed the AC compressor from my 96. It worked fine but I needed a compact compressor to work with my oversized valve covers. Make me an offer.
