Default in the 5.3L Vortec, wich knock sensor is #2?

the one in the front, or the one in the rear? It is supposedly for bank #2, but neither of seems directed towards one side or the other.

I am about to take my manifold off and replace the sensor, and replace the intake gaskets and hoses. I really don't want to take all this junk off, then find out I replaced sensor #1.

I am tempted to buy two of them and replace them both, but for the cost of the sensor, I really don't want to be wasteful.

Thanks

it has been my understanding that "bank 2" refers the opposite side that cylinder #1 is on...or the side that cylinder 1 is NOT on...

+1

Odd numbers on bank 1, even bank 2.

Default Sorry, maybe my ? wasn't clear

I know what side is what, in terms of cyl numbers, but the question is which one of the 2 knock sensors is #2.

According to my Chiltons manual, the sensors are threaded directly into the top of the engine, right on the centerline. One in front, one in back....so I can't tell which is #2. The code pulled was for a bad #2 knock sensor.

Replacement requires removal of the fuel rails, injectors, and the intake manifold. I don't really want to do this job twice.

Thanks guys,
DH1

well I can't say for possitive but I would say the one in the back would be number 2. how much are they? if you have to do all that to replace one I would replace both.

I agree the front is most likely 1 and the rear is 2...

Could also pull the connector on one of them and see if it sets a #1 code.

I agree w/ LARIDERS. Don't know how much they cost but if one went Tango Uniform, can the other be far behind? Plus not much fun to do it all over again.

Default maybe

I think they are about $60 each so i was hoping to only need to do one, as I didn't really think they were a wear item.

I recon you guys are right, because the dealer did wash the under-hood area and I expect they soaked the engine. If the rear sensor is prone to getting wet, it's probably the culprit.

I guess I go ahead and do both, then renew all the seals and vacuum lines, and be done with her.

Is there anything else that might need replacement at 95K miles? EGR? any other things that would be easy to get at since the intake manifold is going to be out?

Thanks guys!

might be a good time to clean the carbon build up from the intake and throttle body
