93 burb fuel tank FYI
Most of you with older Sub's might have already discussed this to death, but here it goes again. My fuel pump finally went out at 245k. So after giving the bolts that hold the straps a good **** of wd, I had the chance to drop the tank today. Once I got the bolts out I dropped the tank and removed the plasticcover. I found a mess;( It ends up the plastic cover held about 15 years of salt and sand. Yup.............ends up my tank is shot. I have sepage along the drivers sideof the tank. Ithink the only reason for the cover is to keep rocks from hitting it?Next time yoursub is low on petro, and you feel like doing some preventive maintenance, I would drop the darn thing and clean this plastic cover out! I amalsothinking I am not going to put the plasticcover back on, just make some rubberstrips to go between the tank and the straps.
Well, I purchased a new tank from Rockauto.comm for about 200 bucks which included shipping. Got the sender and pump from NAPA. Shawn, great idea, I used that spray on bed liner on the new tank. I got it all buttoned up and she fired right up. I wrecked the old sender when I tried to disconnect the lines, the mettle was so weak from rust they broke. So.......everything new and up and running
