98 Chevy Suburban 40 amp Ignition fuse blown
Good work.
Thank you! I put a piece of rubber in between the harness and the steel temporarily. I think I will use a couple tie straps to pull the harness away from where it's at, then try to do some type of repair.
Update! I finally found the problem with my direct short! Was ready to have it towed to a shop. Kept looking around and followed the wiring harness coming from the firewall into the cab. The harness was literally laying against the emergency brake cable. I pushed the harness off of it and could see a chaffed wire. Checked my fuse box and the direct short was gone. Installed a new 40 amp fuse and it started right up! Problem now is how to fix that wire ? Not a lot of room to work in there. Thanks so much to Gumby 22 !! Appreciate all your help and advice! Big time helped me figure it out!

If it’s less than an inch of insulation that’s been rubbed through, you’ll be OK just taping it and securing the harness to prevent further problems. Use the fabric/cloth type electrical tape instead of vinyl as it doesn’t start to peel off over time.
If it’s more than an inch, cut out the damaged section and splice in a new length of wire. Use heat shrink style butt connectors for the splices.
You're lookin' at a 98 Suburban which isn't exactly our sweet spot here, but I have to ask, are you sure it's a 40 amp ignition fuse that's blown? On those older models, sometimes it's a wiring issue that can cause multiple fuses to go out.
