Default 98 Tahoe fan removal

Hello I have a 98 tahoe with a 5.7. I am trying to remove the fan to get to the waterpump with no luck. I have the manual and it states you can just remove the four bolts that connect the pulley to the pump. I have done this but the fan will still not come off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Chris Woodruff

Chris7584, You need to remove the fan clutch first. I left my belt on until I got the fan nut loose. You'll see the shaft has a hex shape, It unscrews from the water pump. Good Luck, Dondobe

yeah you gots to unscrew that big fan clutch nut. it unscrews couter clock wise like any other nut. it's a pain but you can use a long screw driver on the bolts to jam the water pump and then a big adjustable or channel locks on the nut to brake it loose. make sure you put it back on snug later on
