99 Chevy Tahoe crank no start
Good afternoon guys... ok went to Florida let brother in law use truck. Came home will not start, they ran it completely out of gas... I’ve changed fuel pump checked relays etc.. no start, it will start w starting fluid at intake for a few seconds... any thoughts please. I haven’t replaced fuel filter but I have banged the heck out of it.. hope to hear from someone thanks so much
There appears to be a fuel supply problem.
The best pump in the world cannot deliver fuel through a plugged fuel filter.
If you can manage to remove the filter, see if you can blow any air through it. Careful fuel tastes terrible and is not good for us.
Something else you can do , when you carefully remove the fuel filter attempt to drain it out opposite the way the fuel went in, into a container and see what comes out. Could be full of water or junk.
If you have no way to get a new filter, try flushing out the crap with a little gasoline and a little compressed air . You might get enough out so the engine may start again and you can go get a replacement filter, suggest you get 2..

Alright thanks for your help I’m going to regroup and change filter out tomorrow, I do recall every now and then having to turn the key a few times to prime before it would fire, so maybe the filter was getting bad prior to my moron brother in law running it out of fuel and trying to start it over and over w no gasoline. Thanks a lot I’ll post my conclusion tomorrow.
GM recommends changing the fuel filter every 30,000K miles.I carry a pint glass jar and a funnel and take a before and after fuel sample from the pump when refueling. It is a minor inconvenience but could save you a lot of trouble, especially on a road trip.
Alright I changed fuel filter, we still have crank no start.... w key in on position I do have 60 psi at bleeder behind throttle body of fuel pressure. And it does fire w starting fluid like I noted before... so it appears the spider system is plugged or an injector issue???????

Looks like injectors are not being fired/triggered if 60 psi at throttle body. Each cylinder has it's own injector.
I no longer have a manual for my old '99. My spider issues back then were for leaky ones causing hard warm starts.
alldatadiy.com will give you a complete online shop manual subscription for $30 . That's what I use for my current fleet.
