Default 99 suburban 5.7 vortec intake gasket issues

I am having some problems. I have a 99 suburban 5.7l vortec. Found water in oil. Found it to be intake gasket. Replaced gasket. Made sure engine was tdc on 1 replaced distributor cap and rotor and set up correctly. Installed distributor correctly. Truck will start. Runs alil rough then I hear knocking and can smell gas at the exhaust. Any help would be much appreciated.
all plugs and wires were also replaced.

I'd do a leak-down test on the cylinders. Although water tends to damage bearing surfaces worse, there isnt much use in worrying about that. That gas could be washing oil away from lots of surfaces..One reason why the old cars with carbs engines didn't last as long was rich mixtures washing things down in gasoline, stuck chokes, ect.
