Default 99 Suburban Header and Exhaust Question

I am finishing up my engine build for my 99 K1500 burb and am looking into getting a little bit more power out of it. This dang engine went way over budget, as they always do, but I want to add headers and maybe a new muffler to the job as well. I was looking at the Hedman Shorties as they are cheaper and bolt right on. I have heard that headers might hurt MPG but that doesn't make sense to me.

The motor is mostly stock but has 1.6 rockers and beefed up Procomp aluminum heads with a CAI.

Anyone have any first hand input?

Thanks a bunch,

Nathan
