I recently acquired a 99 Tahoe. I don't know much of the history as its hard to track down its previous owner. To start off here's a list of some problems with it.

- very rough idle, makes the vehicle shake
- throwing a 305 code (misfire on cylinder 5)
- a rattling noise when I get on the throttle, it nearly stops at coasting speeds and deceleration. Doesn't sound like a knock.
- gurgling noise when it sits at an idle
- very thin white smoke (does not smell like burning oil) when I throttle it up in neutral.

I've been told that a couple lifting rods have been replaced and some of the plugs and wires. I don't know if they all have or not. I don't know if the distributor or its cap was replaced either. Those are the first things I would check if it wasn't making a gurgling noise and rattling when I get on the throttle.

I cannot find any coolant leaks but it does have oil on the starter and oil pan.

Anyway first things first, I want to find out what's causing the misfire. Thanks for the help and sorry if this is a repeat of another post.

 

Could it be the fuel mixture getting to that cylinder?
