ABS / Traction Control Problem ????
Sunday after watching a disappointing Steeler loss to the AZ Cardinals I sat in stop and go parking lot traffic for 45 minutes. Had my foot on the brake pedal for much of the time. The 07 Tahoe ran fine after getting out of the parking lot until I stopped at a fast food window (About 20 mileslater from stadium.). I heard a small thump and saw the DIC display the Traction Control and Stabilitrac service message. Once I got to where I could pull over I turned the truck off waited a minute (Per the manual.) and started the truck back up. As per the manual, it cleared the DIC service messages but now the ABS or traction control is acting up. I if I slowly roll to a stop there is no issue. But if I have to apply medium pressure to the brake pedal from about 20 MPH or above, it feels as if the ABS is taking over or the traction control is doing something to the front wheels. It has that feeling like you're coming to a stop on snow and the front just slides a little then catches dry pavement. Has anyone else experienced this or can offer any insight into this (Other than going to the dealer which I will do.). Any information is greatly appreciated.
Is the transfer case in 4-Wheel-Drive or Auto 4X4 by any chance?
And now that the weather is cooling down are your tires all set alike and around 30 - 33psi?
And don't go by the TPM sensors use a good tire pressure gauge.

Thanks for the response ZX - I checked the 4WD dial and it was on 2WD - I then stopped and switched it to AUTO then drove for a block and the same symptom occurred. I stopped again then turned the dial to 4 Low then back to 2WD then began driving with the symptom still there. I checked thetraction control switch and it did as it should turning the system off with the indicator on the dash. Turning it back on I continued driving home. I will check the tire pressure tonight when I get home sinceI left it in the garage. I happened to check the TPM Monday morning and the average pressure display was 28 PSI per tire. Could that be contributing to the issue?
OK, safe to say that the 4X4 system is not causing this.
Get all those tires up to about 33psi and then see how it acts and post your results.
Can you actually hear the ABS (now called VSES) motor activating or do you get any lights or messages?

OK - I got all the tires up to 33PSI and road tested the truck. It still has no symptom when easing to a stop but with medium to hard pressure on the brake pedal the steering wheel rotates back and forth slightly. While parked I switched the transfer case from 2WD to AUTO to 4High with the amber light following each rotation of the dial but when I rotated the dial to 4 Low both the high and low lights were on. I rotated the dial back to 2WD and drove home. I also noticed that the dial was warm to the touch. After pulling into the garage I noticed a burning smell when I got out of the truck that left quickly.
Also there were no messages or lights other than the ones mentioned in the post before this one. And I do not recall hearing anything as the symptoms occur.
Sounds kind of like a warped front rotor or a bad aligment.
Do you have OEM wheels and tires?
The warm 4X4 dial is normal (backlighting bulb heat) as is the smell after making several changes to the 4X4 mode.
