Verizon is the only cell provider that links with On Star. They have two different plans where you can share minutes with your cell phone and the Onstar phone. Wasn't cheap so I never looked into it further.

I have Onstar with Verizon. It works well for us. My wife, mom, and myself were sharing the 2100 min plan with verizon already and I decided that it was worth paying the extra 9.99 a month to get the tahoe connected. Also if you call any one with verizon wireless service with onstar, its free with that plan. most of my family and my wife's family are on verizon aready so we use the Onstar phone most of the time when we are in it. You can store 40 numbers I belive in the onstar phone so we just say the voice tag to call them. It also comes in handy when looking for my wife. sometimes she has her phone buried so deep in her purse and the radio so loud, she can't always hear her phone ring. There have been times where she forgot her phone too, so it gives her a sence of security.

You just have to weigh the importance of having it. The onstar phone works and sounds the same no matter if you have Verizon with onstar , or onstar prepaid phone service. you do lose the Virtual advisor which tells you the weather depending were are currently at or things like that but that wasn't a big deal to me. If you dont have verizon already and you either have a good plan or under contract with some one else, it may not be worth it to change either. Also you have to take your minute usage in consideration as well. If you don't use very many minutes already, I would just stick with onstar prepaid minutes. Just my two cents

When I setup my onstar, they offered to add 100 minutes to my included 30 minutes and extend the entire 130 forthe full yearfor an extra $15. I couldn't make up my mind on the spot, but now I wish I had considering that would probably last me the whole year and it comes to about $0.12 per minute.

Does anyone know if there are any tricks to getting better pricing for onstar minutes. I really don't want to pay the extra $10 per month to add my verizonphone for as little as I would use it.

Turns out that offer is still available. I just missed out on extending my free 30 minutes past the trial period.

OnStar will negotiate prices with you, just like any service they do not want to lose your money, so just call and ask. I locked in a lower monthly price for the next two years by threatening to cancel.

We got the Tahoe for my wife, and we have Verizon Wireless, so it made sense to me to add the Tahoe to our family plan. It costs over $1,000 / month to own, operate, and insure the car each month, plus we spend $300+ each month on our cell bill because we have two phones on a family plan, plus two Broadband access cards for our laptops, and my treo has the unlimited data plan. So adding $10 /month to the first $1,300+ didn't seem like much of a cost to me.
