Default Aftermarket Alarm Questions

I had a Viper 7900 installed in my 2007 Tahoe with a DEI 1701g and had a few questions for those who have aftermarket alarms and starts. Just a little info my truck did have a OEM remote start also and the biggest reason I added the remote start was for better range and a longer run time. When I remote start it still only runs for 8 minutes which is the same as the factory, and after it times out I can not remote start the vehicle again. Is there a way to extend factory run time? I also cant disable the remote start with the remote or the brake while its running like any other remote start. If anybody has input on these it sure would be helpful. Thanks

I have to say right off the bat that it is a bad install, there are some additional wires that aren't connected, i.e. the brake light cutoff switch. The run time can be changed to whatever amount of time you need to set it to.

I would go back to the dealer ASAP.

But reading the manuel for the 1701g it says cars equipped with a OEM start dont even need the brake wire connected because it acts as factory and overrides when you put the key in. What I am more or less looking for is longer run time and the ability to shut down or restart from the remote.

u can go back to the shop that installed it and have them use a bitwriter to change the run time on the viper alarm/remote start. As far as the brake wire goes it does sound like they did not hook up a wire to the brake or did not program the remote properly.

If you do a second remote start after the first one, ten minutes is add to the time left on the first start.

Regardless of what anyone may tell you, using the 1701G will not allow you to change the run time, even if they use a DEI bit witer. The 1701G uses data control via the OBD plug (can-bus function) to remote start, lock/unlock, arm/disarm, door trigger inputs....etc...etc. This being said, if you can't adjust the time of the factory remote start, than whatever time is pre-programmed is all you will ever get, unless you change to a TRUE aftermarket remote start/ conventional install. Now, for what can be done. On the new DEI 7900, it offers what they call channel linking, this would allow the installer to program the system to activate channel 4 when the remote start (orange button is activated). What this would do is give you control of the remote start on and off as well as the correct confirmation on the remote. As for the brake situation, if wired properly, depressing the brake would send a command via the can-bus wire to the 1701G, this in turn would send a signal to the 7900 via a W2W (wire to wire) connection, next back to the 1701G from the 7900 via W2W, and finally back to the truck to shut off via a can-bus signal. You should have most normal functions on the 7900 (assuming the install was done correctly) with the exception of the run time. If you STILL want to extend the run time, go back to the shop where the work was done and tell them you want it installed as if there was no factory remote starter. This will, without a doubt, give you your extended run time.

So does anyone else know if you can add an aftermarket alarm and still use OE remote as well as the features? Basically adding motion sensors and glass breaking. Also does anyone know about the new DEI Viper Responder LE looks cool.
