Default Air bag lit when no one sits in passengers seat

I have a 2004 Suburban, 4wd, 5.3 all the bells and whistles offered then. The “service air bag” light came on a while back, but it seemed to be intermittent. Later I realized it only came on when no one sat in the passengers seat. If someone sat there the light wouldn’t come on. Now the light doesn’t bother me, but the no air bags do. I haven’t pulled a code but I have pulled the seat looking for frayed, stretched, or broken wires and have found none. I would like to bypass the seat sensor but I don’t know how or even if there’s a way to do so. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You will get passenger air bag off if no one is in the passenger seat. Service air bag, you might want to have looked at, if you don't have a code reader that can read BCM, you will need to take it to a professional.

Recently had a similar problem with my 07

Recently had a similar problem with my 07 Equinox. Had dealer check it and was told the sensor in the seat was bad. They quoted a repair cost of $!!00.00. This is a well documented issue with GM vehicles. I went so far as to file a report with Chevrolet and NHTSA. For now there is no recall pending. I found a device on line that replicates the signal of a person being present in the seat, which turns the airbag on with the ignition being turned on. It cost about $90.00 and was simple to install, just unplugged the seat sensor under the seat and plugged the replicator in. Only problem is that without the seat belt fastened, the fasten seat belt chime sounds occasionally. This is a minor annoyance and now the airbag will deploy in a frontal impact.
