Alternator voltage at 15 volts - too high?
We have an '02 Burb with a 5.3L engine, but recently we noticed the alternator gauge was reading at around 3/4 the maximum reading. I've taken it to two different places, and both said the alternator is fine. When I connect my multimeter to it, the voltage at the battery is 15 volts. I don't want to damage the batter or any electronics, but is this acceptable? I was told as long as it wasn't in the red, things are OK. I don't feel confident in this advice, but at the same time, I don't want to pay $200 for an alternator if I don't have to.
Thanks for advice on this.

Welcome to the forum.
Normally I'd say yes but mine runs 15 V a lot and service says no problem. Of course mine is controlled by a computer and not a voltage regulator in the alternator.

The range looks to be 11v to 16v....
Charging System Indicator
The IPC illuminates the charge indicator in the message center when the following occurs:
• The PCM detects that the generator output is less than 11 volts or greater than 16 volts. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
• The IPC determines that the system voltage is less than 11 volts or greater than 16 volts. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the body control module (BCM) indicating the system voltage.
• The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds.
• The ignition is on, with the engine off.
