Amp/Subs on 2007 Tahoe
Does anyone know how to wire the amp/subs so that they will stay on when the engine is turned off? I had mine installed at a local shop and it works great when the car is running but as soon as it is turned off the amp loses power. I am assuming that they hooked up the power wire to the amp to an ignition wire. Anyone know of a better power source.
It makes it tough to tailgate at football games when you have to leave your car on all day. Thanks.

In the old days they used to run aftermarket radios & amps directly to the positive terminal on the battery through some sort of fuse. Obviously you run the risk of draining the battery and getting stuck wherever you are. You also might get some alternator whine through your speakers because of the draw on the electrical system.
Under my hood, I did notice what looks like an alternative battery location - probably for a different motor - towards the front drivers side. Ask your stereo installer if it's possible to mount a 2nd battery for your radio and find a high output alternator and wire both batteries for charging while the vehicle is running. Some of the show quality installations use a similar method to power the thousands of amps they're pumping out.
