Anyone run "LT" tires (or E load rated) on their Tahoe?
I just purchased an 09 Tahoe LT with the stock 17" GY...but these are like driving on noodles!
I want to stay with the stock 17" rims for now, but would like to get a better handling out of my rig. I drive about 45k per year- mostly highways..with some country roads and see a varity of conditions such as rain, ice, snow dry etc... no towing to speak of. And I was considering the following rubber choices:
Michelin LTX M/S2 265/70/17 E rated.... Michelin also has a 'D' rated which would be more that capable of doing the job....but they are 285/70/17...
I know is a but overkill going to a E rated tire- and i don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water here and I know the ride will stiffen up by doing this but will it be too much stiffer is my concern??? I like the straight line road comfort it has now but I do feel a bit isolated from the road and won't mind more road feel...So any feedback or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks

I just purchased an ex police 05 Tahoe with LT245 75 R16 load range E and the spare is original. I feel comfort with a tougher tire; not so easy to puncture and can carry a larger load you can run 85 lbs of pressure if needed, for those heavy loads...

One thing to keep in mind about the LT tires is that you will need to pay the dealer to reprogram the TPMS system for the higher pressure. Since I don't tow heavy on a regular basis, I didn't see a need for the LT tire, especially since it was an extra $40 per tire.
i run bfg all terrains lt265/75/r16 on my 'hoe no problem. i did notice that there's more steering feedback, and bumps in the road are felt more. my overall ride is good tho. i do feel more of the road, but not enough to make me take tires off.
I have to re-tire within the next 10,000 miles. I've gotten 65,000 miles out of the OEM tires. I've also been thinking about an LT tire. I had Michelins LT's on my 8000 lb. Dodge/Cummins and got 110,000 miles out of them. They might look a little strange on the Tahoe though.
Thanks for the feedback....I think I'm a bit more confused now..lol!
I did find out a few bits over the last few days of interest- I went down to my local Tire shop, and explained what I was looking for and why...anyway the guy said(also a Tahoe owner) that the oem Goodyear wrangler HP's are just a squirely tire to begin with....makes sense to me! I also called Michelin and asked what was the safest minimum PSI I could run in the LT's (knowing the Max was 80psi), they said you should not air down below 50-55 Psi due to heat concerns.
So.....I'm kinda coming around full circle and considering doing a Tire/Wheel package with a 20" wheel and a good tire(but more likely a P-rated) in my efforts to get a more surefooted feel..I don't know...but I really like to OEM 20" chromes...anybody for sale?
