Your factory GM Navigation DVD is an expensive DVD subject to wear and tear during normal use. My Tahoe came factory with the system and DVD in place when I purchased it new. 5 months later the disk was quite dirty. I made a personal use backup copy of my DVD and now use it for daily driving. My original is stored safely in my attic. This is a method that worked for me, it may or may not work for you. I do not endorse illegal copying of software.

Nav DVD Version: 4.0c
Blank DVD type: DVD+R DL Memorex 8x (Dual Layer)
DVD Burner: Dual Layer capable of setting DVD-ROM Book Type - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_type


Software Required:
DVDDecrypter 3.5.4.0 - http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/SetupDV...er_3.5.4.0.exe
ImgBurn - http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

Open DVDDecrypter and choose File | Mode | ISO | READ to rip to an .ISO

Put the ISO somewhere on your computer where you can find it later. It will be about 6 gigs.

Put in the blank DVD+R DL

Open ImgBurn

Open the ISO file

Set the booktype to DVD-ROM - http://www.digital-digest.com/articl...urn_page1.html

Burn as slow as your writer will allow (mine was 4x and my DVD works fine).

Test the copy in your headunit.

Do not sell copies, this is only for your personal use!

copying DVD movies is so 2000... you can rip (and burn) blu ray now lol...

yes, you can copy movies, but this software is outdated for that, there are much better programs... just google it...

I used to work at a child welfare office with a TV/DVD player in the waiting room... well, we'd use tax $ to go buy DVDs for the kids... (court room waiting room) and... they'd go missing all the damn time...

so we'd make 2-3 copies, and use the copies in the player, keeping the originals locked up.

I am hoping this fell within legal use as we were a gov't agency and we were tired of wasting $20+ every time so damn kid stole a movie!

Gee and I thought Blu-ray was not able to be copied. Guess locks just keep the honest folks out. I'm still in the "so 2000 DVD" mode.

Are the "better" programs still free?

I've seen people use the ability to copy DVDs to say buy finding nemo for $20, then make 2 copies, for their kids to destroy or use in the car / on trips... then your not loosing a $20 disk, only a $2 one

According to US copyright law this is legal.

However according to the reversal of freedom's act (DCMA) the decoding of the original is not...

these laws are in direct conflict.

Don't get me started on this stuff!!!

Some company was also giving away a program that could rip DVDs and encode them for laptop playback or iphone etc i will see if i can find the name of it

What i don't get is i thought DVD/CD were supposed to last forever? How the hell do they get worn down? doesn't a laser read the disc? WTF!

forever under ideal conditions. If you buy a CD/DVD, and put it sealed in plastic, never open it, in a temperature controlled room w/out sunlight, then yes, it will last 100+ years.

in the real world CDs get lost / damaged / stolen / scratched / dropped / etc...

my 09 came w/the Nav DVD in the dash, I pulled it out after 6 months of use to see what version I had... it was COVERED in dust! from 100% normal use...

Followed SabrToothSqrl's instructions pretty much verbatim and was able to make a 5.0 DVD that is now running in my 2007 Yukon XL's navigation system.
