Default Been thinking about buying a Tahoe, but...

There are a few things that bug me, and it's kept me from going much further with the idea of picking up a Tahoe.

I've been lurking on the forums for a few months, and it could be that there may be some ways around my issue list. Thought I'd throw them out for comment:

* Lack of Bluetooth - this one hurts, as I've had it for more than 2 years now and it's very very handy. Yes, I know GM has this thing with OnStar but to not offer integrated BT is nuts.

* No LED tails - GM, I'm not going to upgrade to a Caddy to get these. While I'd be OK with aftermarket, really this should just be a part of the design.

* No HIDs - see the same comment above. I've had factory HIDs for over 5 years now and frankly, I'm not going back...

* Build quality - I see too many complaints about rattles and squeaks to think this is an isolated issue.

* Gas mileage - well, that's inherent to this sort of vehicle and I won't ding GM for it.

Having said that, I do like the design and looks of the Tahoe (why would I post otherwise?). I liked the ride quality and the stiffness as well. Interior looks good as well, much nicer than I've seen before. I've seen posts complaining about black paint but having owned nothing but black vehicles for years now, I won't pin that on GM either unless someone has more specific information. Black is simply a color that shows... everything.

Any comments? I suspect I'll see someone post about Lockpick, experiences with that?

Would it be "worth it" to wait to see what comes with the 2008 model, I think that's coming in August?

Thanks in advance!

yup.. you are right on the money with your post, my question to you is if you like the style & you are not a Caddy guy, then whach gonna do brother...? I love BMW and the wife HAD TO HAVE A TAHOE.... I was trying my best to keep her awat from the truck because of many of the same issues you have posted. Long story short, she got the truck and I she loves it.. Its fine i guess, but not as tight as the X5 in build quality. Bottom line, the tahoe is not a hybrid of the best from the Euro & US markets into on package... For the size and ***** factor, the Tahoe is a good buy and IF you add HIDs & LEDs, you will have more pride in your ride. (Not to mention that less than $500 from what I read on the boards)

As far as BT... Yup, take a look at the Onstar BT lockpick.. http://www.coastaletech.com/GMLOCKPICK.htmPretty slick, yes, but NOT factory i know...

These forums make it easy to be a sideline QB and you are smart for reading up before you buy... "I" just think your top 5 reasons to not buy a tahoe are not even on the roadmap to increase sales in 08.... Get off your wallet!!!!

Sounds like you answered your own question. You aren't going back with anything less than HID, You think the build quality is weak and it doesn't offer bluetooth. In my opinion you should move on cause you won't be happy with this vehicle. For what it's worth, my Tahoe is built substantially better than the Ford's I drive at work and the previous Chevy and GMC's I have owned.

I agree with doo. You seemed to have made up your mind.

Plus the Tahoe and the X5 are really not comparable - they are two completely different animals. The X5 seems to have the options you are looking for but you will be paying $15K more for those features. The escalade really is more of a fairer comparison pricewise and featurewise.

Sorry to disappoint the amateur pyschologists and mindreaders () but I most certainly have not yet made up my mind.

Again, this is why I'm posting, asking for input.

Let me post some more of the things I like so you folks don't think I'm trolling:

* The non-Nav radio integration between the satellite stations and AM and FM is very nice. My current car requires something like 4 button presses to get from an FM station to a sat channel.

* The interior design is pretty good, I may have mentioned that before. I'm impressed with that.

* I like the fact that the climate-control is thermostatic, I've had that for a while now and while I see some posts on this board that indicate that some peeps don't understand how it works, this too is something that I really won't give up.

* The hot windshield fluid application in winter sounds extremely handy.

* The remote start is also handy - I park outside at work.

FYI, I would be looking at an LTZ model.

Also, someone mentioned X5, I am not looking in that direction. I think the first person replying to my OP brought that up, it may have thrown some of you.

I just got an LTZ with everything... I also added the super lockpick and a Motorola 1000 IHF this weekend because I missed the BT feature that we have had on previous vehicles ( '05 X5, '06 Commander & '04 Touareg no BT). The Tahoe doesn't compare to any of these as its really a different SUV. I am glad to see many of the features (power folding mirrors, heated rear seats, lane change signaling, and remote start to name a few. The ride is by far better than the three I mentioned, but it really depends what you are looking for... Quality is much better than I had expected so no complaints here (and still new) HID's will be installed next, miss those too!

Mindreaders? I simply quoted what you wrote. You pointed out several negatives that you said you were not willing to live without. Common sense says that the Tahoe does not have these things so you should look elsewhere.

for me it was done to the RR Sport or the X5. I bought the LTZ Hoe with all the goodies. The quality is good and the ride is great. Did I mention I saved at least 15K?

Yeah it did throw me- sorry. I see now it was another poster that brought up the X5. Most of the wants you listed can be added after. There have been some recent threads that added the Caddy LEDS. The build quality for a first year new redesign has been very good overall. Yes there are a few guys even some here that got some lemons, but overall I think GM has done well. BT can be overcome as well. I dont have the lock pick yet, but I am sure it can be done. I am very happy so far with my LTZ and really enjoy driving it. Good luck
