Default Bluetooth not syncing / working - 2010 Suburban

I just bought a used 2010 suburban LT and when I hold the bluetooth button on the steering wheel to sync devices the radio will go muted but nothing else happens.

The manual says a voice is supposed to come on and tell you to sync your device but this isn't happening.

Any ideas?

Haven't heard of a "bluetooth button". Do you mean when you hold down the 'telephone icon'? Manual says to hold down for two seconds. FYI, I just bought a 2012 Malibu LT with the telephone icons on the steering wheel. However, it is not bluetooth-equipped. Go figure. Why use that steering wheel?
