Can Seafoam cause a knock sensor to go bad?
Hi Everyone,
This is my first post so let me start by saying hello and thank you for all of the amazing information everyone has provided thus far. I have a 2002 Chevy Suburban with a hair over 200k miles. It has had regular oil changes every 3k miles w/ high mileage oil and routine maintenance such as the occassional bottle of Lucas in the gas tank and crank case. Two days ago, after filling up the tank with regular 87 Octane unleaded I decided to run a bottle of Seafoam through the fuel system via the gas tank. After about 50 or so miles I noticed the check engine light was on so I stopped at O'Reilly's and had it tested. He said it was the knock sensor but it may be the Seafoam so he reset it but the light came back on after 20 or so miles and has been on ever since. My questions are:
#1 Can Seafoam cause the knock sensor to go bad?
#2 IS it possible it is just a false reading and the light will go off after all of the Seafoam/gas has been used?
#3 How much does it cost to have both sensors replaced plus labor so the mechanic doesn't try to screw me?
#4 If it is the Seafoam are they liable for repairs in any way?
#5 What damage may occur if I continue to drive it like this?
I know it's a lot but this is the only place I trust to give me knowledgeable and honest answers. Thanks everyone
