Default cataletic converter question

2003 suburban 4x4.. my check engine light is on.. ive had it checked and reset a few different times.. only to be told by a few different auto part stores that it converters are starting to be plugged up.. my local muffler shop here in Oklahoma sense there are no start inspections.. that they can remove them and burn out honey comb screes in side then reinstall them.. but I don't know if the 02 sensers screw in to the converters or if they are next to them.. either way would it mess up the readings to were the light would stay on dew to the fact that to much flow would be going thru.. I was told that it would not.

Removing the cats will definitely screw up your ECM and how your engine performs. I've heard that there are dummy O2 sensors that you can install to fool the ECM but I suspect it will not be the same.

if the code is p0420 you need cats. removing the cats will cause this code set and it will always reset if cleared. Don't cut out the cats and weld in cheap replacements either; get the complete y-pipe.
just fix it right the first time.

Default cats

Agree with doing it correctly... I believe when codes are thrown like that the engine runs rich, killing your mpg...

Cant wait to buy my next car which.. has no exhaust system
