Check engine light

I have a 2007 Surburban. 5.3 L. 160,000 miles on it. The last time that I filled it up I started smelling fuel. Soon after the tighten gas cap light came on. Tightened it but it wasn’t loose. Purchased a new one even though the old one looked fine. Now the check engine light has come on and it’s showing a vacuum leak code. Any ideas ?
