Default Coolant leak 2001 suburban

My 01 suburban LT 5.3L leaks roughly about a half gallon of coolant everyweek. After I top it off the low coolant light will typically come on within 20 minutes of driving. I have searched all over the engine compartment and found a small wet spot on the water pump and a few drops on cables on the bottom of the engine but cannot track that back to a source. I'm debating changing the water pump to see if that helps but have read other forums that say the engine is just bad and may need replaced. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what this may be. I looked under the oil cap to see if any coolant had condensate there and it looked like there was some dex-cool condensation under there but it seems like the amount of coolant I go through is too high compared to other people that were having issues with their coolant leaking into the oil.

waterpumps are pretty common leaks on those, check your oil level and if its milky?

I'm changing the water pump with fingers crossed. looks like it has been done before but can't hurt. Oil looks good, level and appearance.

you may be leaking coolant into your combustion chamber. so you won t see any evidence in your oil cap.

you could do a combustion gas test on it but if you have a visible external leak that would be the cheaper and easier starting point

Swapped the water pump and the light has been off for 2 days now. I assume that was it. Thanks.
