Default Cotton Air Filters (K&N and Green...)

Anyone us a cotton air filter on a new(er) tahoe? have a 2013 and was thinking about getting one and was wondering if it helped with mileage/power or both. Have one in my diesel and was able to gain about 1-1.5 mpg.

I have a K&N in my '07 Suburban LTZ. I haven't noticed much mpg improvement necessarily, but I think it has improved response when it comes to acceleration.

Less restrictive = less filtration

You might want to re-consider if you deal with dusty conditions.

I went through the "CAI/K&N" filter phase on my vehicles. Changed the sound a little, especially at WOT. Never noticed any change in mileage or power.

Stock air boxes have been reinstalled.

I have to agree with intheburbs, I think you will end up spending good money for nothing really in return... the only reason you will see better MPG with a different filter is because your wallet is lighter

Unless you improved the total over all ability for the engine to breath, new ported and polished intake, ported and polished heads and headers, you really won't get anything but more noise...
If a simple filter could give you better MPG, the auto manufactures would be all over it as a selling point....

yeah - wasnt really thinking about the whole cold air intake system, just the drop in air filter using the stock air boxes (cost is around $50) probably just try it here in about 5-10k miles when we need a new one and see if it makes a difference

I would recommend the AC Delco heavy duty filter, they are about $26 on Amazon, replace it once a year, more often if you are in really dusty conditions... I find it helpful to write the date if installation on the side of the pleat so you know when it was last done... it also helps keep the service guy from trying to sell you a new one if you take it in for servicing (having the date on the filter)

i've had the service guys ask if they can take my air filter out of my diesel just to look at it b/c it has a sticker on the air box that says "WARNING.....this is a lifetime filter...do not throw away..etc" guess some have never seen one...

thanks for the replies...will think about it
