Dash Cam
And, thanks to US shippers, and internet reviews; I bought this one
Wickedhd G1W Original Dashboard Dashcam 1080p HD H 264 2 7" LCD Car DVR Camera | eBay
And, it should be here TODAY!
And, thanks to you guys, after some playing with it's position/settings/etc. I do plan to wire it hot 24/7 and set it to 'motion' capture. Which should capture all issues while driving, and any parking garage issues.
The "Motion Detection" is what I wanted, which is, if the camera is on, it will start filming when there is motion.
So, parking lot, and the camera is powered 24/7 (it's currently in my jeep since that's what I took to work today), it should record people walking by.
I'll check the 'tape' tonight.
The rear 12v outlet on my jeep is hot 24/7, so I stuck it to the rear window (hard top on in winter) and... we shall see.
From testing in my garage last night, yes, walking by would turn it on, it lights up, and starts filming. Then this AM when I started driving it turned on.
Obviously with no top or doors in the summer, this presents a problem, but let's deal with that when it happens.

When I first setup my E-Prance 801, I left the power on 24/7 with the motion detect on, but it needed pretty big movement to activate, as in a vehicle passing by, I tried walking in front of the hood and it only started recording at the point I was nearly out of view...
As for driving motion detection it works great..so I opted to set it up to operate with ignition on only...
I have yet to capture anything exciting 4 months into ownership...

Updates on my dash cam.
The motion sensor setting 'works' but just as in2pro pointed out, it appears to require "A LOT" of motion to start recording. a human can walk by, fully lit garage, and it won't start recording... when the vehicle moves it does, but when there is no motion (stop light) it seriously stops recording... motion should trigger at least 60 seconds of recording past motion stopping, but that's not adjustable.
So, I'm starting to rethink how I plan to use this. Obviously on w/the car is the most common setting, but with my Tesla on it's way, I really wanted to film motion based... if someone runs into it in a parking lot or shopping cart or just some jackass... etc. etc.
1080p needs about 100MB per minute, so that works out to 320 min (give or take) on a 32gb card. Let's call it five hours of recording before it loops.
720p (30fps) needs about 1/2 that. So 10 hours before it loops.
Recording 24/7 for 10 hours may be my only option. So as long as I discover the damage within 10 hours, I'd have video.
as for "no events" in2pro. I'd call that a good thing
