Motorcyclists drive with headlites on to increase their visibility. If everyone has their lites on, it reduces the effect for them.

Wouldn't that cause wear on the e/brake. By even clicking it one notch - will that engage the brake?

Your logic would perhaps be good if the purpose of DRLs was to make a vehicle stand out from other vehicles, but that's not the purpose. The purposeof daytime running lightsis to make a vehicle be more visible relative tothe background. If every two and four wheeled vehicle has DRLs,that fact won't cause those vehicles to blend into the background. It just means that all vehicles will be more visible relative to the background than if they didn't have the lights.

If it was against the law, then GM wouldn't have a switch that allows you to turn them off.
you cant turn them off only when the vehicle is in park..... soon as you shift to drive they come on....

And if it wre that simple this thread would not be here would it.

not really, the brake wont apply right away, just fools the computer into thinking hte brake is on...most GMs have a override to tunr them off while in park say idling at a drive in or somehting but soon as you put it in drive to go they come back on

To start with, it is not against the law to not have DRL on your car, it was a safety and insurance thing.
With my 2006 Silver you can turn them off anytime you want to.

Now with that being said, I found a webstie telling you how to take care of the DRL's.

P.S.
I did this last night and it worked just fine.

Bringdanoisemikl, here's how you do it!

GM fullsize trucks 96-98'. At the bottom of the dash about where your right knee is there is a small bulge. Under this bulge is a 2" square finned relay (actually a 2volt drop diode) Use pliers to bend retaining bracket. Remove and unplug.

Unplugging the relay (diode) will cause a drop of between 1 and 2 MPG; but if it accomplishes what you want no big deal I guess.

DRLs are a product of the nanny state. []
If you can't see a car or truck coming at you without the headlites on during the day, you probably shouldn't be driving.
