Disable AirBag System

I have a 2003 Suburban LT 4WD. If I pull the SIR fuse under the hood, will that disable the system so I can replace the steering wheel airbag? Or is the SIR fuse just for the seat belt restraint?

Just disconnect the negative cable from the battery and wait 1/2 hour so system fully discharges. That eliminates any guess work.

That also wipes out all your memory for the radio, mirrors and seat info... I was hoping just pulling the fuse would do that..

Better to disconnect the battery and do simple stuff like resetting memories than blowing off all the airbags and tensioners.
