Does your Radio come on when you want to look at nav?
on the 2007 Tahoes with factory NAV, is there a way to look at the nav without turning on the radio? My buddy and I were trying everything imaginable on his 07 LTZ to get the navigation screen to show without having to turn on the radio itself...
His solution in the meantime is to hit MUTE in order to get the navigation map to show.
Anyone else experience this?

It has been my experience you have to turn the volume **** all the way down. The Nav system uses a separate "channel" for volume which you can adjust when the lady speaks or in the menu.
If you are referring to the screen itself, just press the NAV button again and the radio half will go away. Press it again and it will come back. Like I said before, the radio volume and nav volume are separate and can be adjusted with the **** or menu. Hope this helps.
That's now what he's referring to... the issue is that you can't have JUST the Nav system on WITHOUT the radio being on. I agree... it's annoying. My Z06 can do it, why can't the Tahoe? Same Nav manufacturer.
Guess I am a bit confused. You can have the radio turned all the way down - like it is off - and still use the nav and hear it if it is giving directions.

Thank you, thats exactly what I mean...
For example, in my wife's lexus, she can use the navigation system without having to turn on the radio... or (turn down the volume). Same thing on my Range Rover Sport. Also the same with any honda and toyota navigation unit... BUT, on my friends Tahoe, we spent a good hour going through the manual, and the menu settings looking for a way to turn on the navigation without having the radio come on....
You shouldn't have to turn the radio sound down, or press mute to avoid that...

I've been living with mine as it is...it doesn't seem to be a big deal to me. It is, however, the only vehicle I have with nav. So I'm not "spoiled" by something better.
Good luck to those who are bothered by the situation. I hope you figure it out.
