Default Engine Hours display means nothing!....

Twice now when I've received my Tahoe back from the dealer, the Engine Hours counter has been reset to "0 hours". Both times, I've noticed it days later when I go thru the DIC readings and it's pointless to return to the dealer. Are the actual total engine hours stored somewhere where they could be recalled to the display, or are they gone forever?

Default engine hours

yea, it does seem stupid you can reset that.

If you have the scan II tool or an OBD-2 tool it should display it, I believe.

I've been writing mine down at every fill up since day one as a way to track maintenance/servicing and well Im just plain **** like that.....
I have not seen the hours listed in my code scanner with real time data but its possible the info is stored somewhere...

I remember hearing about this problem when the NBS first came out. Seems like it should not be resettable just like the odometer.

I have four trip's I can reset, and when I reset a trip it will reset all info under that one. Like mpg,mph fuel used, miles, hours and so on. then there is the main one that the odometer and hours that can not be reset. sounds like we have different systems.

Yes, the NBS DIC only resets the function showing on the display except for odometer and engine hrs. Doesn't have the Personal and Business functions like the GMT 800s did.
