Fan Controls Inop
I have a 2001 Suburban with a/c. The fan control stopped working for the#1setting about 3 months ago which was tolerable. The #2 setting stopped working two days ago. Has anyone had this problem and is it much of an undertaking to repair? I would think it has to do with the contacts in the switch itself.
Thanks,
Will

That is a classic resistor pack in need of replacement. While you are at it you should replace the fan too. Old fans with shorts or other issues can cause excessive amperage through the resistors and blow them. I just replaced both on my '96 for less than $60 at Advance Auto. The fan is easy to replace as it is just behind the pop-out glove box. The resistor pack is located on top of the cooling ducts and extends into it to help keep the resistor wires cool. I loosened as many dash screws as I could find from the center towards the passenger side. I unplugged some wires from each other and used a wooden mallett handle to pry up the dash. At least 2.5" of clearence is needed. The fan took maybe 20 minutes, the resistor pack took 1.5 hours and was very frustrating.
