Fuel pressure regulator
Is there any gas in the tank? The gas gauges sensors are prone to go out. If you know you have gas, then knock the bottom of the gas tank right where the fuel pump is with a rubber mallet. You may get lucky and it may give fuel pressure and fire up the engine. It is all one piece inside the gas tank and the tank has to be removed to change it.
Have you checked your fuel filter. It is under the car just below the driver's door. I would change that first, only $19. If it is clogged, then that could lead to a burnt out fuel pump if not corrected soon.

The problem that i am having is when trying to start it it takes a couple tries to get it to start, i was told it could be the regulator going bad and not keeping pressure in the rail, i was told to remove the vacumm hose and if fuel comes out than the diaphram is bad and so is the regulator, but no gas came out so i was wondering if there is a way to tell if it is good or not. Thanks, Russell
Check your fuel pump relay in the underhood fuse/relay box. Taking a long time to start can also mean a fuel pump relay is out. Normally the relay turns the fuel pump on, but there's a backup system. When the relay does not trigger the pump, the pump will come on when the oil pressure rises to 4psi by the starter cranking the engine. You could also, as osiris said, have a stopped up fuel filter. Does your engine continue to run with no problem after it starts? When you turn the ignition to the "on" position, can you hear the fuel pump run for a couple of seconds?
The sub has 111000 miles, i had the fuel pump and filter replaced a year ago while on vacation, the pump does come on when you turn the key to the run position, i took the regulator out and one of the o rings has a cut in it, the part store didn't have a regulator for the flex fuel engine in stock so they ordered one, it will be here wednesday.
That may very well fix your problem but I would also recommend cleaning the fuel injectors with that many miles racked up.
You can pick up a 4 pack of 16oz bottles of Chevron with Techron Injector Cleaner at both Sam's Club or Costco, dump all 4 bottles in one full tank of fuel; it will do wonders in many instances.
