With the information provided, the first guess would be the vent hose coming off top of tank going to top of fill pipe is blocked or collapsed. Without this hose working properly the gas will erupt out of fill pipe while trying to fill due to trapped air in tank. Also, do as 73shark suggested and give all the information possible. Fill in your signature and general location. Due to extreme heat or cold, certain problems exist in some parts of country and not in others.

My 2007 just started doing that and got a DTC of P0446 which is evap vent system and it wasn't a loose gas cap. Service manual went into great detail about what to check so since have extended warranty, will let my service dept get after it. Will let you know what they find.

Just got the truck back. They replaced the solenoid valve and four hose heaters (?) in the tank vent system. It had codes P0466 and P0455. They found a Mbulletin Doc#2292102 that pertained to the problem. Filled the tank w/o incident after fix.

Not sure if this will pertain to your '05.
