Default GPS volume problem

2012 Suburban LTZ
The nav system will not work independently from radio. No radio, no nav.
The nav voice commands do not mute the radio, so I have to run with the nav volume up all the way, which sounds scratchy, and the radio volume set at low.
Is this system messed up or is this the way it works. I seem to remember the nav working better than this, but then again I could be wrong.
Any ideas? Thanks.

If you have the owners manual, check it for the settings

Tried that, thanks. Just got it back from dealer and they talked to tech people at GM and no one had an answer. Their recommendation: Turn the GPS volume all the way up, the radio volume down, and ignore the road noises. Not what you want to hear on a $50K vehicle.

Professor: Welcome to the forum.

I agree w/ kevinkpk. I had my nav/radio replace because the cooling fan was noisy.

The dealer ordered a new radio. They will install it next week. I just find it odd that this model does not mute the radio when GPS voice is active.

Thanks. The dealer I go to is really customer oriented. This problem just baffles them, but they are working hard to fix it.

My Nav does turn down the radio volume when she's talking.

Bluetooth also turns down the HVAC fan when a call comes in.

My bluetooth turns things down, too. I wonder if we have the same infotainment system. I should get this replaced this week. I will post new results.
