Grinding sound in left front area
2002 Suburban 1500 4WD
I have a grinding sound in or near the driver side front wheel. The sound only occurs when moving forward and braking. It sounds like the noise you hear when your brake pads are down to bare metal, but that's not it. I pulled the pads but even though they looked good (about half life).I replaced them anyway.
It otherwise drives well in 2wd or 4wd
I recently replaced the bearing hub on the passenger side but it had different symptoms.
Any ideas? Thanks

Several local friends have suggested the bearing hub, but as I have already mentioned, the bearing hub on the passenger side had different symptoms. In that case you would get the grinding sound, with the car jacked up, when you rotate the wheel in either direction all the time the wheel was turning. Also, you could wobble the wheel by hand, indicating a bad bearing.
I have also checked the other 3 wheels in the same manner and neither of them makes any noise.

Took it to a local shop. They found that the noise was coming from the passenger side front wheel. One of the caliper bolts had come out and the caliper was dragging on the wheel rim. Thanks for your thoughts. Best regards, okrobie
