Headlight is Opaque/foggy looking. Where to buy replacement?
Hello everyone.
First things first, forgive me if I've posted in the wrong section of the forums. I couldn't find a troubleshooting section specifically for the Suburban.
Anyways, I own a white 02 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 LS 2WD 4dr SUV (5.3L 8cyl 4A). This car's been great, to say the least. It's got everything that I need to suit my lifestyle including power, plenty of trunk space/interior space, and I think it looks friggen bad-***!
But now onto my misfortune, upon entering my garage just yesterday I noticed that the driver side headlight looked a little bit different than its passenger side counterpart. It appeared to be opaque (I believe people call this a fogged headlight). In a closer inspection I found a small fracture in the housing of the assembly, and I'm wondering if this could have allowed moisture to enter in and cause the fogginess.
Seeing as that replacing the part would likely be the fastest and easiest way around this problem, I've decided to buy an aftermarket one from an online vendor. I've had friends and family who swear to me that aftermarket parts are no worse than the originals, so I though what the heck why not try it out and see for myself. I've already done some browsing around for possible online vendors and have found two that I particularly liked. However, the price difference of the product between the two sites is significant, which has raised my suspicion about the legitimacy of the vendors. Has anyone ever dealt with either of the following companies and can verify that they are a legit business? Thanks in advance folks.

Welcome to the forum.
I've dealt w/ Stylin' Trucks. Great CS. Suggest you call them first w/ any questions.
If you know or can get the P/N from your parts dept., you can check gmpartsdirect.com. They sell real GM parts. But unless they were cheaper than Stylin' Trucks, I'd get them there.
Just checked: http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm and they are a lot more.

I had a crack on a headlight housing in a Saab that I owned and it allowed moisture to collect in the light. I sealed the crack with RTV and dried out the headlight and drove it that way for 8 more years with no moisture intrusion.
If the foggyness is actually a degradation of the lens surface (I don't know if our suburbans have plastic or glass lenses), you can resurface the lens with a kit from the autoparts store. I did this in my wife's minivan and it restored a dingy looking headlight to near brand new clarity. This kit comprised of an abrasive disk that mounted in my cordless drill. Basically wet-sanded my headlight and turn signal lenses back to their original luster.
If you really want to buy new lights, you can...but over the years I have become a master at breathing new life into seemingly broken items.

I've used this with excellent results. Follow the directions exactly, and you can't go wrong. There's enough in the bottle to do a fleet of cars. The sandpaper will last for a few cars....

why dont you upgrade to one of the new euro styles? you get a clear glass lens with either a chrome or black colored background. Put in the Sylvania XtraVision bulbs and be happy. They are even the same price if not less than OEM stuff.

If you want to restore faded headlights and save a ton of money I would suggest using a high flouride toothpaste. Brush it on the headlight using a toothbrush, then buff the light with a spongeball that fits on the end of your drill. It works just as good and will save you about $25.00.
