The 1500 is rated at 7,500 lbs. 2500 is 9,500 per: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_th...ry_tow_package
Don't know if these are w/ a Class 3 weight distributing hitch which you should have if you're considering towing six tons. Not to mention good trailer brakes.
There's a big difference in being able to tow a load, whether level or hilly, and doing it safely.
Why is the 2500 body heavier?

I used to haul all over the mountains in Colorado with a 454 Chevy 3/4 ton with air assist bags in the back. It was a converted camper special, 10MPG all day long, loaded or not! Get the one with the dent so you don't worry about driving into a ditch when your too heavy trailer pushes you off the road!

sorry, 73Shark, i meant that the burb body is heaiver than the pickup body. every classic editon burb i have had, has had an extra leaf in the pack for more weight. and 3/4 ton burbs (at least this one) has a 5 leaf pack, which is a 1ton pack
