my wife set her wedding ring on the dash and it went down the defrost vent of our '08 tahoe lt. is there an easy way to access it or do i need to take it to the dealer? any d-i-y links for removing the dash myself to get to it?

Take the covers off of both A-pillars, then ory up the dash cover around the defrost vent. (see pic below)
If you cannot get the ring from there you may have to remove the entire dash to be able to pull the defrost
vent from the heater box to find where it has fallen
