Default Help? ZX? Need a power and ground source in the rear end somewhere!

Can someone provide some insight on where I can wire my rear view camera up to a good power and ground source in the rear of the vehicle? It can be in the rear hatch, or somewhere on the right side rear interior of the vehicle.

I used the HVAC power and ground last time and would like to avoid running hthe wires all the way to the dash. Thanks.

Youcanuse the power socket on the passenger side in rear. That should provide you with at least accessory power possibly even a constant power.

That was a thought of mine. So you think that would work for the camera? I guess I am asking will it provide the power to the camera when it needs power. I am not familiar with what is constant, and whether constant is needed, etc. Are the wires to the aux lighter socket in the rear red and black?

Trailer socket also has a constant 12V lead. Are you sure you want the camera on all of the time even when it's not being used? But I guess if you're getting a lockpick, then you might want it powered up all of the time.

Well the last time I used the HVAC power and ground and it worked flawlessly. I would assume that would be a constant ground. ???

Therefore if there is something in the rear hatch or rear quarter I can use that will have the same effect as the HVAC power and ground did then I wont have to fish the two wires all the way to the HVAC controls behind the dash.

Don't you have to pull a video line anyway?

Yes and no. Since this nav was from the factory I am going to use GM_Geeks recomendation and use the partial wiring that is already existing from the front fight kick panel. I am going to run a single RCA from the two wires behind the kick panel along the passenger side to the right rear quarter. That is as far as I will have to go and the camera box and everything will be placed behind the right rear quarter. This should make it very simple to do. Of course provided taht GM_Geek was right and I do have the two wires needed behind the kick panel.

I think you want switched power and everyone keeps suggesting lights. The lights won't have power if the lights are off.(no brakes, no running lights) Test the rear 12v. You want swithed anyways don't you. No switched power, no monitor.

I was thinking the same thing you were thinking. However, again this is electrical and not my specialty. I thought the same that the lights wouldnt worked unless they were on.

SO you think the 12v outlet will work? Asking me to check would be like asking your orfor sure mywife. IN fact she would probably be better for the task.
