Default How can replace with HD cluster.

Hi,

My 05 Suburban 1500 instrumental panel has a problem.
Everything is OK like CC, but the check engine light and 4wd/Lo,Hi, don't work.

As far as I know, the check engine light should come on when the key on and disappear once the engine starts, but not at all at all times.
That's why it's very hard for me to figure out whether the 4wd is engaged because nothing is on the cluster.

So, the question is;
Is the replacing with new the only solution? I mean how about BCM?
I am just worried the issue still exists even after replacement with $375 part alone.

Another question is, is it easy to replace with the HD one so that the transmission temperature can be seen as someone in this forum talked about?

Thank you for all answers.

OK, I'm not sure I'm following you....Sometimes the check engine light doesn't come on at all? If you turn the ignition to "run," without starting the engine, the check engine light should light up and stay illuminated, even after all the other lights go out.

Regards to the 4WD, there is no light on the instrument cluster. There are lights next to the 4WD buttons that illuminate to tell you if the transfer case is in 4 auto, 2wd, 4 hi, 4 low or neutral.

These trucks already have everything installed for the trans temp gauge. Once you plug in the HD (or Escalade) cluster, you will have a functioning trans temp gauge.

It is a simple thing to replace the cluster.

1) Chock your wheels (or set the parking brake).
2) Tilt the wheel all the way down, and move the gearshift lever all the way down to "1".
3) Pry off the bezel that covers the front of the cluster and dash.
4) Remove the four 7mm screws holding in the cluster.
5) Remove the cluster, unplugging the electrical harness at the top of the opening. The plug can be stubborn. Have patience, and keep wiggling it while releasing the locking tab.

Installing the new cluster is the reverse of these steps.

Hi, intheburbs,

Thank you so much for your answer.
I just came to see the 4wd light located in the left top of the cluster as the owner's manual presents. (3-52)
But I guess the 4wd light is available in not all models. Mine is LS FF model. I got the GM for the first time.

Also, yes, the check engine light never comes on at all in both cases of the key turn on and engine start since purchase as used one . In other words, I have never seen the light is on in any case.
According to the manual, I should have it repaired in the dealership.

Reading your answer, I will surely consider the Escalade or HD cluster.
Still what I am concerned is that the issues like check engine and 4wd light are not solved even after replacement with new one because I was once told that the problem might be in the BCM.
That's why I am looking forward to anyone who experienced with these issues.
Well, I think I should try to figure out what the real problems are.
Thank you again.
