Exclamation Can I replace my 350 with something bigger, buying a used motor?

Just curious, I have to replace my busted engine in my 91 K1500. Its got the 350 v8 and I was wondering if it was possible to put a bigger engine in that I could buy used... Like out of a bigger Chevy truck?

If it is an everyday driver wouldnt reccomend it!! But if it isnt you can either bore your 350 out and put a 400 crank on it and make a 383 stroker or you can put a big block 454 in it!

motor mounts i think is the only real fitment issue. im not sure how big the engine bay of a 91 is but in my 89 2500 i had u could fit just about anything in there

The 454 will need different motor mounts, a bigger radiator, the computer upgraded for the added fuel consumption, and the transmission bolt pattern is different from a 350, IIRC. I say stay away from 454. If you want added power, go with a 383. I have a 1991 with a 454 and would rather have a 350 in it anyday. The pros of a 454 are outweighed by the cons.
