How dumb would I be...

If I refilled my tranny after a filter change with Coastal DexMerc ATF?

2000 5.3L 4wd LT

yes...I've just never heard of Coastal. It says that it's certified for DexIII. All they had at the local shop.

Is there any benefit to putting a DexIV fluid in this transmission?

Coastal isn't the greatest, but it'll do. Its like the "walmart brand" so-to-speak.

There is not such thing as dex IV (4) The new GM fluid is dex VI
(6). There is also a fluid out there called ATF + 4 which is for chrysler products.
