Default I think I need a new fuel pump...

When I go to start my Burb (2008 with 80,000 miles) it is slow to build pressure, and after it does start, the pressure is at 45 when it's supposed to be 50-60. I'm pretty sure this means I need a new fuel pump. Is this something I can do myself? Or should I take it in? Should I at least take it in to confirm the diagnosis? I'm pretty handy but have never done a fuel pump before.thanks.

Hi Blessed3,

We do believe that the dealerships are the best able to diagnose your vehicle. Just a head's up-- if you visit the dealership there may be a diagnostic fee associated with the visit. If there is anything additional we can assist you with, please let us know.

Hi Amber. I already called the dealership and they want $100 JUST to diagnose (neighborhood auto repair shops want $40), and $800 to replace the fuel pump. It's a $300 part. That's a ridiculous price. I'm not about to give the dealership any of my business especially since I'm already so disgusted that I'm replacing a fuel pump in a $52,000 vehicle with 80,000 miles.

I know EXACTLY what you mean !

Yourself ?, it's in the Fuel Tank, so you got to drop it to replace.
Helps if there's not much Fuel in the Tank, so you could drive it a while, then go for it. Helps if you have a Floor Jack.

If you have done other repairs to your vehicle then changing the fuel pump should be do able. Its not a hard or overly difficult task, its the dealing the weight of a partially filled fuel tank and of course being prepared for any spillage...
