Default instrument cluster trouble

2003 chevy tahoe z71...none of the guages or the drive selector lights work....the instrument cluster lights work around all the guages but no readings are showing on the gauges anyone else ever have this problem before?...I also cant find out what fuse the actual cluster is any recommendations on where to start diagnosing this problem?

Do you have 2 problems the gauge lights don't bwork and the gauges don't work? This could be 2 different problems. When not sure which fuse it is, check them all. Sometimes they are marked one thing but actually control something else as well. There was also a recall on the gauges from 03 to I thinl 06. The stepper motors that operate the gauges are faulty and need to be replaced. the dealer will do it for $600 or you can do it yourself for about $25.00 if you can solder.

im gonna throw my 2 cents out, when the digital dash does not count or read, and the cluster with needles dont work, its either a VSS sensor or vehicle speed sensor, or a relay behind the dash wiring may have messed up, i ended up changing a VSS sensor and it didnt solve my problem it was the wiring with a relay that popped and would not work, i take my truck to a garage that you trust, that works with electronics and electrical problems in any car! i got charged 60 bucks for one hour and a few extra 1 dollar bills for the relay fix, check into this stuff first

just a follow up.....they say if somethin dont work hit it and so i hit the lower dash panel under the steering wheel with my hand a few time(not hard just a good tap) and everything immediately started working so i guess something under the dash has a loose connection maybe or something is slowly going out....any suggestions so maybe i can fix it before it fully goes out.

I’m running into the same problem and was wondering if you ever figured it out? I can’t find anything online about a relay in the dash.
