K&N MAF Troubleshooting Tips
Recently I installed a K&N FIPK. 80,000 miles previously went by totally trouble free, no CEL / MIL. Install an intake, BAM! CEL first trip out and while towing. The next day the light went out. Next highway trip, not towing, BAM! CEL again. I forget the code number but it had something to do with the MAF. I called K&N and they gave several things to check:
1) Correct clamps on both ends of the new intake tube. The end by the filter gets the wider clamps, the end near the throttle body gets the narrower clamps.
1a) Are the clamps tight?
2) Correct couplers on each end of the intake tube. This is easier to get right based on the instructions but is worth checking. The thinner one goes on the end near the throttle body.
3) Gaskets on both sides of the bracket that the MAF mounts to? There should be one on each side and they both need to be installed.
3a) Make sure the 3 MAF screws are tight. Not overly tight but it is easy to undertighten them.
4) Since you have everything apart, go ahead and clean the MAF with the correct product for the job.
I had at least three problems, 1, 1a and 3a. I did NOT clean the MAF as it looked pristine so i just elected to not touch it. I cleared the codes and hopefully the next trip will be trouble free.

Its possible the MAF got some kind of contamination on it during the install...
There is a product available for cleaning the MAF so that might be a simple place to start...
Could also disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes and see if everything relearns after it reconnected... but I would try cleaning the MAF...

I installed a K&N in my truck about three months ago and here recently I I've been getting a p0101 code for the maf. I'm thinking the oil from the K&N was getting on the maf so I replaced it with a dry filter and cleaned the maf, so far no light.
