Default kinda a technical question

have an 87 suburban, its got a 72' 350 in it.. (bought it this way uhhg) anyways, its carbed, no tbi, but it has the tbi distributor in it.. runs like a gutless wonder.. i know in 72' they didn't have the hei distributors.. now i'm wondering if the distributor could be my issue, but what i'm not sure about is is the 72' 350 different enough from the original 87' 350 that the disty could be firing at the totally wrong time?

Default distributor

i would think that you would need the 87 distributor for the 5.7 350 ,for the computer timing controls ,you have to have the right timing light ,and a wire has to be disconected to set the timing .
