Tahoe & Suburban The power, space, and brutal towing ability make the Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, arguably the best full size SUV's on the market today.

Default Lifter collapsed

I have a 2015 Chev SUBURBAN LTZ WITH A 5.3 L ENGINE WITH 123000 MILES. The lifters started ticking and engine started missing slightly. the check engine light came on and the car would accelerate slowly like it was low on power and stepping on the throttle it would run up to 3000 rpms , and if I back off the throttle a bit and slowly depressed it it would gain power as usual and seemed to run fine.Accelerating to much it would hesitate, let off a little and it would get power back and i could increase speed. The dealer said a lifter was collapsed but the problem was intermittent. Anybody have any suggestions other than paying the dealer 2800.00 to fix it ?

Most likely an AFM lifter went bad. With the price of another sub I would fix it and pick up a plug in AFM delete module and drive it another 100k miles. You cannot buy anything worth anything for $2800 today. I'd trust a dealer repair over an independent one as better recourse warranty wise on the work if any issues come up.
AFM lifter issues are common across other brands as well as GM and there is no band aid fix for it.
AFM delete module has been plugged into my Tahoe since I bought it with 35k miles on it to help minimize any of those issues. At 138k now.

Well, I was going to suggest an independent ASE shop instead of a dealer....

Next time I'm in, I'll ask my independent ASE mechanic if he recommends the AFM delete module for our recently-acquired 2011 with 6.2 engine.
