Default Liftgate issue

We own an '09 Tahoe LT. Occassionally, when we have opened the liftgate glass (and subsequently, closed it), the the gas shocks have detached themselves from the lower mounting pins. As a result, the plastic attachment cups (at the lower end of the shock rod) are then pushed against and ultimately then force themselves beyond the lower edge of the glass. The shock rod/ plastic attachmant cups end up protuding about 1 1/2 " beyond the glass.
I am concerned that glass will eventually become damaged or broken. I have been able to compress the shock rod/s and push the attachment cup/s back onto the mounting pins, but this issue has persisted.
Has anyone experienced this problem and if so, how was it reolved?
TIA..

Are you still under warranty?

It sounds like the circular spring clip is either missing or weakened.

Default Warranty....

Just a follow-up to this issue. I took the Tahoe to a GM dealer in Yuma (where we spend the winter months) and they replaced both gas shocks under warranty. Hopefully, this will resolve the issue, but I do wonder if the plastic rod ends become worn after some use and we may see the same issue after another year and a half? (The Tahoe has been in service for this period od time).
Otherwise we are very pleased with the Tahoe.

By chance did you check for the spring clip I mentioned? It's purpose is to prevent what happened to you.
