Default Liftgate making clicking noise....

Hello all,

2008 Suburban LTZ. The power liftgate will sometimes not lift itself even though I hear the motor running. Makes a clicking noise like there is a gear stripped. If I "help" it get started it will usually lift the rest of the way by itself.

Is this the "clutch" on the lift motor behind the driver's side panel or is this some way the actuator motor that is behind the handle on the door itself?

I tried searching but could not find this specific problem with it making a clicking noise.

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum. it could be that the gas springs have leaked out enough that they no longer provide enough assist force to allow the motor to do its job.

Thank you for the welcome!

The struts hold up the gate just fine. When I hit the button to open the gate it unlocks fine and it tries to open. The problem is I hear the lift motor running and there is a clicking sound and the door only just starts to open. If I lift it a little it will go ahead and finish lifting itself all the way open.

That's why I thought maybe it was the plastic gear/clutch on the lift motor.

Thank you!
