Question Limp Mode?

Does anyone know how to get my truck out of limp mode? I drive a 98 Chevy Suburban 1500. 2WD. I had trouble with the transmission so I swapped it out but it seems to be doing the same thing as the last transmission was. It will not go into 3rd gear. It is stuck at 2nd. It tries to go into 3rd but instead of actually going into gear the rpms shoot up and then it catches for a minute before it seems like it falls back into 2nd gear. We are going to unclog the catalytic converters today and after we do this, does the truck come out of limp mode on its own or do I need to do something to reset it? I can not locate the TCM on this truck and here recently I heard that there isn't one for this model? Can anybody confirm or deny this?

The codes I am pulling are for 02 sensors. I don't know if that helps at all.

It sounds like you may be shooting the parts cannon at the problem. Did you have a confirmed transmission failure, or just swap it out yourself due to the symptoms you observed, which seem to be following the engine and not the transmission? What you are describing isn't really "limp" mode. Not even sure that is a thing with the GMT400 series, but know it is with the 1999 and newer.

As I mentioned in the other thread where you asked about the transmission control module, I sent you a link to the full service manual info on that 1998 Suburban 1500 2WD. Hopefully if you look at the diagnostic procedures in there, something will stand out.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!

Anything helps at this point. We switched it out due to symptoms and its a good thing we did because the fluid in there smelt horrible and there were chunks of metal in the fluid so that told me the transmission was soon-to-be out of there. I have read up so much on the symptoms and what could be wrong and its starting to seem like a wire might have come lose or a sensor or something so it cant enable the gear fully, which is where the attempt comes in at. I just hoped someone on here could have given me a direct answer more or less because the trouble shooting is not only costing me a fortune with time lost from work but the parts and all that has gone into isn't that cheap anymore either.
