Hello all,
I am looking to lift my Tahoe soon, so that means swapping the wheels. I don't want to seperate my stock rims/tires to get the tire pressure sensors out for the new wheels.

So my question is when I get the aftermarket wheels, can I just buy a seperate used set of pressure sensors in the new wheels and be fine and work okay?

I had this same question when I was looking at changing to aftermarket wheels. What I was told is that most wheels will accept the sensors. However you will need to check with the wheel manufactuer or company selling the wheels to make sure the wheel will hold the sensors.

You can find the sensors on ebay for around 100.

Lastly, once you get the new wheels and tires on you will need to have a dealer program your vehicle to adjust for the new sensors and different pressure. I am sure someone on here can give you more details and tech terms than I am providing. But this is a general idea.

I was told that there will be some type of light and/or notification on your dash if you dont use the sensors. Personally I would for sure use the sensors. I was told from a few people that there wasnt a way to get rid of the notification if you dont use the sensors, however I would think that it would be possible to get it off I just dont know how or by whom.

You should be able to use the sensors on any tire. They are actually screwed into place using the stem. What type of tahoe do you have? (model) and do you have the auto leveling system?

I just installed new sensors on my aftermarket wheels today. I think they were like $125. Definately worth not having the headache of switching them every time you have to change out the wheels for winter. Getting them caliberated with the computer was a pain in the you-know-what though.

Actually, because there is no standard for rim design the sensors may not work in all rims.
The inner area around the stem differs and the rim may not accept the sensor. There is a small box at the back of the valve stem that needs proper spacing.

Be safe and check first.

 

I had a yellow exlimation point light that would stay on and every time I would start the truck the digital read out would say "check tire sensor system". I hated looking at it. Personally I like having the sensors in. I wasn't able to find a way to disengage the warning.

Just lifted mine and its really not a hassle to break the bead, change sensors and then re bead to use the sensors in the new wheels. Better then spending an extra 100 + dollars. IMO

Are those moto metals as well? They look really good.
